Moving To Glebe With Two Men and a Truck

With families young and old, students, singles, couples, and everyone else in between, Glebe is one of Sydney’s most desirable suburbs to call home. This means that this inner-city village sees a constant stream of moving trucks up and down its leafy streets.

Geraldine was a student in a share house on St Johns Road in Glebe. After three years in the three-bedroom terrace house, she decided to move in with her boyfriend. She called V-Move and spoke to one of our customer service staff about her inventory of items and the points of access at both addresses.

We put together a quote with an estimate of the time the job would take. With an hourly rate and a one-off call out fee, and upfront costs for bigger and more cumbersome items, V-Move does not sting you with surprise expenses at the end of the job.

Geraldine paid the $100 deposit and locked in the move. On the day, the moving team arrived on time and after a brief inspection of the items to be moved, started right away. Geraldine had decided to pack boxes and dismantle her bed by herself, so she saved time and money being prepared.

The Lopez family bought their dream home in Glebe, a four-bedroom 19th Century terrace house with views of the Sydney city skyline. With both Mr. and Mrs. Lopez working busy jobs, they arranged packing and moving services with V-Move a month before the move.

For a four-bedroom house, the Lopez family were entitled to 80 free plastic boxes for two weeks. These were brought with the packing team of four the day before the move. Then, the moving team of three men came and packed up the ten-tonne truck.

The movers use specialised equipment for heavy and awkward furniture and other items. Because the Lopez family had a piano, they had to pay $150 extra and $30 for every step up and $20 for every step down. Another $50 was required for their French door fridge. Everything was outlined in the quote.

On the day of the move, the Lopez family asked the movers to arrange a pickup of their plastic boxes in a week. V-Move Removals offers free pickup and delivery of our plastic boxes within a 25km radius of our base in the Inner West.

The Diverse Inner-City Village of Glebe

Between Parramatta Road and Blackwattle Bay sits the inner-city village of Glebe. So close to the CBD and the inner-west and yet feels like a world away, Glebe has a unique village community feel. From the weekend markets to the backpacking hostels, the vegan cafes to the haute cuisine restaurants, Glebe has something for everyone.

With parks bordering three sides of the suburb, a shady place for a picnic is always an easy walk away. Glebe Point Road offers two kilometres of dining and shopping, from the Broadway Shopping Centre to Sappho Books and beyond, high street and independent businesses sit side by side.

The name Glebe comes from the word glebe, which refers to an area of land under the jurisdiction of a church. In the case of Glebe, the land was taken from the local Gadigal people and given to Anglican Reverend Richard Johnson, who was the chaplain on the First Fleet.

Glebe is accessible by several bus routes and the Sydney Light Rail, a travel time of 10 minutes into the CBD. The eastern side of Glebe is a 20 minute walk away from Darling Harbour, and a 10 minute walk to the neighbouring, and famous, Sydney Fish Market.

As of the 2016 census, almost 60% of Glebe’s houses were rentals. This is reflected in the eclectic mix of nationalities and socioeconomic backgrounds of those who live there. Indeed, the diversity is one of the highest in all Sydney NSW, and Australia.
